Hot Girl Fall Trends 2020

Ahh fall… cool weather, chunky sweaters, boots, scarves, hats… it’s really the best time for fashion. It’s not so hot that you’re melting into your outfit as the sweat between your thighs joins forces with your TJ MAXX linen pants to create a second layer of skin. And on the other hand, it’s not so goddamn cold that you have to bundle up to day-drink on a random Saturday. Let’s be real, bundling makes all of us look real chonky and it can be hard to stunt on those hoes when you’re wearing a full-ass parka and three pairs of leggings.

So ladies and gentlemen, I introduce to you, Hot Girl Fall.

I think the great philosopher, poet, and author Megan Thee Stallion said it best when she said

"Hot Girl Fall is a state of mind

It's a jack-o-lantern filled to the brim with wine

PERIOD.

So, if you’re looking to throw some Hot Girl Fall fits, look no further because today I’m breaking down my favorite fall 2020 trends. Before we dive straight in, I want to remind everyone that I have absolutely no qualifications to tell you anything about fashion. I am not claiming to be Anna Wintour, I’m not even the Great Value Anna Wintour. I’m not even a speck of dirt on the bottom of her Manolos. While I love expensive, designer, runway fashion, that’s absolutely not what I can afford or wear on a daily basis. So, this is going to be more of the poor, average girl type fashion. No runway looks, designer goods, or department stores involved. I’m self-diagnosed, off-brand, shopaholic so take everything I say with a grain of salt and wear whatever makes you feel beautiful, confident, and stylish.

R.I.P Skinny Jeans

Skinny jeans, boy did they have a good little run there. I have been wearing skinny jeans since middle school and while flattering and comfortable, it’s time that they take a hike. But before you take your favorite pair to the ole’ Goodwill, think twice about it because odds are they’ll be back in style in the next 10-15 years. Just think about it, when it comes to denim trends we're basically heading back to the late '90s and early 2000s.

Okay, so not quite this, but definitely the light wash, distressed, baggy look. More like our gal pals from Friends.

Over the last few years we’ve seen less skinnies and more… baggies? Baggy jeans are the new thaannng. Straight jeans, boyfriend jeans, wide-leg jeans, even flared jeans, better known as “bell bottoms” (although you wouldn’t catch my short-ass legs dead in a pair of these). And it also seems like the more cropped or distressed the better for fashionistas everywhere. Here's how to style the latest jean trends this fall!

1. Straight Jeans

Straight jeans are such a safe denim investment. You can almost always make them work no matter the trends at the moment. Pair with a chunky sneaker, flat sandal, or heel to dress your look up or down. This fall I am almost exclusively rocking my favorite pair of straight Levi's jeans. Unfortunately no longer on the shelves, here are some jeans similar to my absolute faves:

(no link, just inspo)

2. Boyfriend Jeans

You don't need a man to have boyfriend jeans these days, you don't even need more than $40. Check out these affordable, stylish, comfortable jeans and drop jaws queenie. Comfortable, flattering, and perfect for everyday casual wear.

3. Wide-Leg and Flared Jeans

The wider the pant, the bigger the statement, and the bigger the sass. In my personal opinion this style of denim works best on a taller person, but who says you can't rock a wide-leg jean if you're 5'2? Screw em'!

4. Dad Jeans

These dad jeans are a great style of jeans for fall 2020. Style them with just about any top to dress them up or down. However, be sure to add a little heel and give that leg some length, baby girl!

For a more trendy, figure-flattering look, pair your dad jeans with a crop top or tight top and show off that figure!

Puffy Sleeves

I used to scoff at my mom's wedding dress all that lace and those puffy sleeves, man... These days I buy things because they have puffy sleeves. Puffy sleeves are having a serious moment right now and I'm living for it. They're the best addition to any plain, solid color tops. They also are the easiest way to dress up a jeans outfit.

Animal Print

Every few years we see a big animal print trend. This fall I'm loving cheetah and tiger print. Animal print clothes are more clothing items that you should never get rid of. If closet space allows, push that stuff to the back and pull it out when it comes back in style, because you know it always will.

I had so much cheetah shit at the height of Jersey Shore that I would love to have back now. Who knows where my cheetah jeans and zebra sunglasses ended up? I miss them so much and would love to rock them daily now.

Anyway, cheetah and tiger prints aren't really new concepts by any means, but this year I've been loving a cow print moment. I used to swear that I would never wear a cow print (for obvious reasons) but it has grown on me lately!

Headwear

Hats aren't solely meant for Christian Girl Autumn type girls. Everyone can wear a trendy hat. This fall throw on a bold western hat or coordinating beret to add some spice to any plain outfit!

Faux Leather

Leather is an iconic staple to any wardrobe. Every woman who really takes herself seriously ass a bad bitch should own a leather jacket. The fall 2019 runways were stacked with head-to-toe leather and this fall is no different! We're doing leather pants, leather jackets, leather boots and more! Black leather is everlasting and chic, but we don't discriminate here, we love leather in all styles and colors!

Corset Tops

Yes, you read that correctly and no we didn't time travel back to the mid 1800s. Corset tops are one of the latest trends in women's fashion and they are hot for fall! Not only are they something a little bit different than the other pieces we have in our closets, but they're also super flattering, fun, and can be paired with any sweater, coat, or jacket for added warmth.

Prep

I don't normally categorize myself as preppy and I don't usually like preppy things. Sure I like Gossip Girl fashion, but you definitely won't catch me in the J. Crew, Vineyard Vines, Banana Republic wing of the mall. However, this fall is different, idk who I am anymore. I may just be a preppy lil bitch after all. My favorite casual and comfortable go-to has to be a plaid, pleated, or tennis skirt, paired with a collared shirt, crewneck, and chunky sneakers. This outfit makes me feel trendy and comfortable while totally giving me Princess Diana vibes (but if Princess Diana participated in Hot Girl Fall back in the day).

Another bonus of this outfit is that it's totally weather appropriate. The bare legs counteract the layered shirt and crewneck so you're never too hot or too cold, a struggle of Missouri's 60 degree fall weather.

Of course there are plenty of other trends I'm loving this fall. For example, the color emerald green is having a huge moment right now and athleisure...she isn't going anywhere any time soon! But I really just wanted to show you guys my favorites. I hope you got some Hot Girl Fall inspo from this post, and maybe even did a little shopping while you were at it. We have been cooped up in our houses for so long, but that doesn't mean you have to dress like it! So ladies, get out of bed, take off the sweatpants that have been in the regular rotation for all of quarantine, get some Hot Girl Fall fits, and take some insta pics!
